About

Michael S. Swindell Sr. was born in Savannah, Georgia. He was blessed to be adopted by two loving God-fearing parents and raised in the small town of Bamberg, South Carolina. Michael participated in football and track at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School. He was an All-Conference offensive guard his senior year.

He attended The University of South Carolina for his undergraduate degree in History. Thereafter, he received his Law Degree from the University of South Carolina Law School and was licensed to practice law in South Carolina in 1989. Since then, he has focused his practice predominantly in Worker’s Compensation and Injury Representation in South Carolina. Michael has worked in the field of Worker’s Compensation and Social Security disability for 35 years.

Attorney Swindell is a member of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina, a sustaining member of the Injured Worker’s Advocates – an organization that looks out for the interests of injured workers in South Carolina. He serves on the Legislative Committee for the organization, which monitors bills and works to create legislation that supports injured workers.

He is a past board member of the South Carolina Worker’s Compensation Education Association, where he served as the Treasurer of the Organization. The association consists of attorneys for both claimant and insurance defense, as well as insurance adjusters, doctors, and rehabilitation specialists. The association focuses on the law and how to practice effectively and efficiently in the field.

After graduating from Law School, he met and married Columbia, South Carolina native Paula. They have three boys: Scott, Chad, and Ben. The family spent many years supporting the boys’ sporting endeavors in football, cross country and wrestling. As a result, his hobbies include watching high school and college wrestling. He also enjoys following South Carolina Gamecock’s sports too, including football and women’s basketball.

Michael and his family are members of the Chapin United Methodist Church. He serves as a board member for the Mizpah Church Foundation. The Mizpah Church is a historic Church established in 1895 in the lower state of South Carolina. The Foundation is responsible for the preservation of the Church and the annual family reunion celebrating the five founding families.
